Joseph J. Lynn, Sr. passed away on Wednesday November 18, 2009, with his family by his side. He was 79. Joe was born in Manville, NJ and was one of nine children. He graduated from Bound Brook High School in Bound Brook, NJ in 1948. After high school, he served our country in the Air Force. After his military service, he became a Councilman in Manville and was head of their Urban Renewal Project. He entered the Insurance Industry and he later took a position in the City of Clifton, NJ in 1972 with the Administrator of the Emergency Employment Act. While working, he attended night school and earned a degree from Rutgers University. He eventually became Administrator of Purchasing and Personnel in 1974, and a final role as Clifton's 4th City Manager in 1982. He retired from the city in 1990 and completed consulting work with other local cities including Bergenfield, Blairstown, and Atlantic Highlands. Some of his job highlights in Clifton included the urban renewal and the development of the Botany Village Section. In retirement, Joe enjoyed life in Surf City, Toms River, NJ and eventually settled near his grandchildren in Marlton, NJ. He was a resident of Marlton since 2002. His activities included his life long role as a Mason in the Clifton Lodge, #203. He was a lifetime member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Manville-Hillsborough Elks, #2119. He was a member of the Athenia Veterans Post in Clifton. He worked at Indian Springs Golf Course and enjoyed multiple activities with his family. Joe lived by 3 mottos: "Family comes first", "Treat people the way you would want to be treated", and "You can never have enough friends". Joe was a great man who always had a kind word to say. Anyone who met or knew Joe...liked Joe. Family and friends were at his core. He enjoyed trips to Manville to be with his family at Russian Christmas
and visits back to Clifton to spend time with his daughter and son-in-law. He enjoyed many family vacations. The apples of Joe's eyes were his two grandchildren, Morgan and Joey, III. He was so proud of everything they did and his greatest enjoyment was watching them from the sidelines on the sports fields. He, along with his wife Patty of 53 years, would attend every game they could. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, daughter, Doreen, son Joseph, Jr., son-in-law Tony, daughter-in-law Susan, granddaughter Morgan, grandson Joey, III, and great granddaughter, Isabella.
