Helen M. Koerner (nee Mataloni) of Barrington, NJ died Saturday, October 10, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her beloved family: husband, Joe, and children, Jay and Cindy. Helen is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces as well as other family members and friends. She was once again reunited with her parents, Tomas and Teresa Mataloni, her sisters Ann (Katsanis) and Ida (Sergas) and many other loved ones. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Helen met her husband Joe while working as an operator at Bell of Pennsylvania. After the couple moved to New Jersey with their young son, Helen was active as a writer for both local and South Jersey newspapers, often covering political and PTA events. In later years, Helen devoted herself to her family, both as a homemaker and as the one to whom many people turned for wisdom and advice. She also used her considerable writing talent to create untold poems for her loved ones to mark various special occasions. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 2 P.M. at the Crossroads Assembly of God, 233 Church Road, Medford. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 1 PM until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen's memory can be made to The Salvation Army, 915 Haddon Avenue, Camden, NJ 08103 or the Crossroads Assembly of God.
