Donna M. Wells of Charlottesville, VA, died Friday, September 11, 2009. She was 55. Donna was born on January 9, 1954 to Jean Harriett Wells and the late Floyd of Shamong. She is the cousin of Kathy and Jeff Lewis and Godmother of Shannon and Kristen Lewis and Kelli Jean Facehinetti. She is the cousin of Bill, Diane, Matt, and Tim Garron and Brenda Eckis and Goddaughter of Marjorie Gerber. She also had numerous cousins a number of dear friends. Donna was a member of the Indian Mills United Methodist since December 24, 1967. She is a graduate of Shawnee H.S., Class of 1972 and a member of the First Championship Softball Team. Donna is a graduate of Appalachian State University, Boon, NC, in 1976. She was an All-Star First Baseman and most Valuable Defensive Player. Donna was a teacher of Health, Physical Education, and Reading at Oakland School in Keswick, VA for 30 years. She was awarded the "Golden Apple" in 2003 for teaching excellence. Donna was a lover of sports, especially softball, hiking, and snow skiing. German Shepherds were her favorite and she owned many over the years. Donna loved to travel and went all over the world with family and friends. From riding a camel in Israel to swimming with the dolphins in Tortola, to riding the rapids down the Gully River to hot air ballooning, life was an adventure. She enjoyed visiting lighthouses and loved the New Jersey Shore where she spent many wonderful times. She loved Lucy and collected her memorabilia. In her mid-forties, Donna battled a rare and deadly form of cancer and showed us what courage was all about. She "lifted her eyes unto the hills" and in "everything gave thanks". She is off on another adventure. Thank you for all of your prayers. She will see you in Heaven. Funeral Services will be Saturday, 1 PM at the Lechner Funeral Home, 24 N. Main St., Medford.
